Do you smell it? That first fallen leaf? I know I can always smell when fall is in the air (or maybe that’s just my pumpkin spice candle). As fall quickly approaches, so do midterms, and so does the cold weather.
I know whenever fall hits I’m torn between wanting to spend all my time outside, and just wanting to burrow myself in a corner with a good book and some tea. For days when a book just isn’t enough, I like to stream some things on Netflix.
Now, I live in Canada so these are my show recommendations in terms of TV shows Netflix Canada has, I can’t guarantee that they’re all over Netflix.
Gilmore Girls (154 episodes • 2000-2007)
Do I even really need to say more to convince you? Gilmore Girls is hands down my favourite show and I think part of that is because it’s the essence of fall. I can’t quite put my finger on it but the whole show has a very ‘fall’ essence. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.
This November they’re coming out with four revival episodes. If you start now, you’ll probably be done in time to enjoy them!
How To Get Away With Murder (45 episodes • 2014– )
While this show doesn’t scream ‘fall’ quite like Gilmore Girls does, what’s better than curling up and watching some suspenseful TV? Plus Halloween’s coming up and if you’re not a fan of scary things, shows like are perfect for faking it!
The show cuts back and forth in time in a super interesting way and the plot is amazing (any fans of Scandal out there? I think you’ll love this one too! Shonda Rhimes is a producer!)
Pretty Little Liars (160 episodes • 2010– )
Again, a bit like How To Get Away With Murder, this show is suspenseful without being overly terrifying. While I’ll admit I haven’t seen the latest season (I have a lot to catch up on!) I still love the show. If you’re a fan of shows like Gossip Girl but want the police to be a little more involved this show is perfect for you! If that doesn’t convince you, all of the actresses in the show are so freakin’ adorable!
Law & Order SVU (389 episodes • 1999– )
If that fact that this show has been going on for nearly twenty years doesn’t convince you that this show is amazing, than maybe my recommendation will be. Olivia Benson is the most amazing female cop ever. She goes through so much and yet keeps on living. I think it’s kind of inspiring. It’s also just an amazing cop show and because it’s SVU it deals with a lot of issues surrounding sexual assault. There’s an overarching storyline, but also individual stories for each episodes.
Plus, who doesn’t like the theme song??
“In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories.”
The Fosters (72 episodes • 2013 – )
As the name might explain, this show’s about a family that fosters children. Although that’s probably the simplest summary in the world, it’s kind of hard to explain this show without giving away some of the juicy plot points. If you like drama but you also like looking at issues such as how society perceives gay teens, lesbian parents, and interracial families then this show is for you! It’s kind of like they couldn’t pick enough causes and so they shoved them all into one show! It makes for entertaining TV that’s for sure. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, it’s really quite good.
